Where to find us

North Shore Sport Dock at the Beacon Marina, Gloucester, Ma. (http://g.co/maps/a5h3t)

Where we go

Where the fish are, but usually between Maine and Provincetown, any where from 3-20 miles off shore but as far as 50 from the dock.

What to expect

Tuna fishing can be very exciting when the bite is on. There can also be a lot of down time, so be sure to have a positive attitude and the willingness to fish all day. Methods include trolling, fishing with live bait, and casting and jigging. You should also expect to help be a big part of what goes on and not just sitting around, although if you want to stay out of the way or not help you certainly can.

What to bring.

I will supply the boat and gear. If you have a particular rod that you would like to bring, you are welcome. You should keep in mind that these fish can sometimes weigh over 1000lbs. So make sure your gear is suited for the situation. I use mostly Shimano reels and custom made rods. You should bring lunch and snacks and beverages. There will be water on board but if there is something in particular you want to drink you can bring that as well. Sunscreen is a good idea. There is a perception that Drinking=Fishing, heavy drinking is not something I encourage on the boat. Tuna fishing is dangerous and hard work. You will need your energy and wits to get the fish to the boat and alcohol will diminish those odds. Also the weather can change pretty quick so be prepared for temperature and rain.

What happens to the fish we catch

Fish over 73" by law are property of the boat and must be sold. The boat keeps the profit from that check. I can process any fish under 73" and you can take how much you want home. If you plan on keeping some steaks be sure to bring a cooler as the meat will turn quick.

If I catch a trophy fish, how do I make arrangements to mount it?

I do not work with a taxidermist in the area but generally today, people don't kill their fish to mount, they are done by reproduction. We can take the measurements and reproductions can be made. But I suggest finding a taxidermist ahead of time and asking him what he wants you to do.

What is a customary tip

Tipping is not necessary I am doing this because I truly enjoy it.

What about seasickness

If you get sea sick or you think you might. You should take any medication, such as Dramamine, well ahead of time we will be pretty far from shore.

What about the weather

If bad weather is forecast, we can reschedule if you like. Fishing in bad weather doesn't make you tough and can get you killed. I am doing this because I enjoy it. I don't really feel like getting thrown around the ocean in a downpour any more than you or the next guy. The Captain reserves the right to cancel the trip at anytime due to weather or unsafe circumstances at his discretion.
